Oh My Gourd…Fall is Here!

Happy fall y’all! A week ago it seemed like the cool weather would never come, but by the grace of God, the temperature dropped and autumn is finally here! To kickoff the season, my sister Cammie, best friend Courtney and I decided to take a trip to the pumpkin patch to get into the spirit. We started our day with Starbucks and worship at church and then drove to Lloyd Family Farms for a fun filled day!

Upon arriving, we waited in line to get our hayride tickets. After purchasing, we began loading onto the wagon. We were surrounded by giggling children pointing out the farm animals and soft smiles from all passengers as they gazed at the gorgeous open-land. The crisp air was magical making me wish this day could last forever!

As the pumpkin patch came into view, the hayride came to a stop. We made our way off of the wagon and into the sea of orange. Court, Cam and I immediately pulled out our cameras and began snapping away!

Like every blogger, fall fashion is my absolute favorite. I couldn’t wait to showcase my staples at the patch! I wore my holy-grail Urban Outfitters black turtleneck top (seriously can style this in a ton of different ways) paired with an A-line camel colored suede skirt from Old Navy that I know I’m going to wear on repeat this season! For shoes, I went with my black, suede, block heeled, thigh high boots from Zara that I adore. To finish the look, I popped on Mac Cosmetics Cream in your Coffee lipstick (favorite fall shade) and threw on my Quay Australia black aviator sunglasses for polish.

The Little Lemon Dress

In the beginning of summer, I remember scrolling through Instagram seeing all of my favorite bloggers/fashion influencers sporting lemon print and I was immediately obsessed! I bookmarked their posts for inspiration and was on my very own hunt for the perfect lemon sundress for summer. While shopping in Marshalls looking for swimsuits, I stumbled across this sky blue, fit and flare, 50’s style lemon printed dress. It was love at first sight and the dress was completely darling; I darted toward the rack, scooped it up and headed for the dressing room! As soon as I zipped it up, I knew that I had to purchase it! It fit like a glove and I immediately started to style the dress in my head. I envisioned my blush Kendra Scott necklace, my gold holographic Michael Kors bag and some white vintage sunnies and that’s exactly how I wore it! I took the dress out for a spin at my favorite coffee shop in Long Beach Island with my sisters for some iced soy lattes and acai bowls!

Memories from Maryland

On my freshman year move-in day, I remember one of the last things my Dad saying to me before he pulled away was,”Lex, you’re going to meet ‘your people’ here”. As someone who struggled through high school in the friendship department, that was everything I was hoping for. It excited and terrified me all at the same time because the possibility of making lifelong friends seemed so incredible, but I was also scared about whether or not I would connect with people in the ways I wished for. As they say, parents are always right and I was blessed with forming some amazing friendships this past year. One of the most special relationships I created in school was with my friend Carmen. We had met at an admissions event the Spring before our freshman year started. In the Fall we both happened to be in the same Spanish class, we sat together, and the rest is history! Every single Friday we met at our school’s coffee shop and gave each other life updates, laughed until we cried, vented, gave each other advice and inspired each other! Carmen and her family invited me to spend the week in her hometown and I was incredibly excited to spend time with her and make memories that would last forever!

One of my favorite places we visited was this small town called Berlin. This quaint spot is filled with awesome shops, boutiques and restaurants. I spent way more money than I should have and bought some awesome jewelry and a new pair of sunnies that I absolutely adore! Below are some photos of the food I ate and snapshots from this sweet place!

Whenever I travel I always look for a cute and comfortable outfit to walk around in. I went for an off the shoulder, smocked gingham top that was super comfy and summery. I paired it with a high waisted, white, frayed jean skirt that I seriously have not stopped wearing this season. I finished the look off with some blush colored, suede slides that I cannot get enough of! Most of my wardrobe is black and white so these add a subtle pop of color that I am totally obsessed with!

I’m so thankful for my vacation with Carmen and can’t wait to show her my hometown next summer!

Special shoutout to this sweetheart for being the best friend!

Sweet Summertime // Terhune Orchards

There’s nothing quite like fresh fruit in the summertime! Because strawberries are in the height of their season, my sister and I decided to seize the moment and take a trip to our local orchard to go picking. We chose a beautiful, breezy afternoon; the sun was shining bright and we practically had the fields to ourselves. Upon arriving, we went into the little farm store and both picked out teal cartons to fill with the sweet berries. After getting them, we walked towards the fields and got right to it! I had so much fun searching for the perfect berries and before I knew it, my carton was overflowing! I couldn’t wait to bring them home to my family and cut them up for dessert!

But First, Brunch!

Brunch has and always will be my favorite meal! You simply cannot go wrong with a mix of sweet and savory delicacies, coffee, mimosas and most importantly, great company. My family and I love trying out new places to eat and recently, we were recommended by a friend to try out Wildflour Bakery Cafe. This darling little restaurant is in a gorgeous, historical Victorian style home making for a cozy and warm atmosphere. This menu puts a special spin on classic brunch foods. They’re dishing out unique crepes, omelettes, flatbreads and offer a wide variety of vegan and gluten free options, making this restaurant a pleaser for all lifestyles. I started off the meal by sipping on a delicious almond milk cappuccino that I couldn’t resist snapping a photo of! I followed my cup of joe by ordering a vegan roasted kale and sweet potato crepe served with a vegan chipotle aioli…it was seriously amazing! There is nothing I love more than sitting down to a meal with great people, sharing stories, laughing and enjoying life together.

There’s Snow Place Like Central Park

To me, the holidays are truly the most wonderful time of the year. Growing up, my family and I always took a trip into the city near the holidays to see the Rockefeller Christmas Tree. Because of all those amazing memories, my friends from college and I decided to do a girls trip into NYC to experience the magic of the Big Apple around Christmas time. We started our trip by trekking down to Central Park from Penn Station. It snowed the day before, so when we arrived the Park was covered in a blanket of white. It was breathtaking. While strolling around we made sure to stop at the famous Gapstow Bridge and Central Park Pond for some photo ops of course!

After taking tons of pictures we decided to fuel up with a proper NYC brunch at Jam’s Restaurant conveniently located right across from the Park. The restaurant is as beautiful on the outside as it is on the inside. Ivy covers the exterior of the restaurant contributing to the upscale vibe of the place. The inside of the restaurant is cozy and elegant. Exposed white brick walls, lots of greenery and twinkly lights warm up the space and create a romantic ambience. The menu consists of a great balance of sweet and savory brunch options, everything from brioche french toast topped with an apple-berry compote to killer kale salads. Eating at Jam’s does come with a price so be sure to come financially prepared…I can assure that it is well worth it! I seriously can’t wait to go back in the future.

A Day Downtown // Fredericksburg, VA

In need of a good meal and some retail therapy, my roommate and I took a trip to downtown Fredericksburg for a day of fun! I had never visited before but have only heard great things about the town and I couldn’t wait to explore. I was greeted by massive, historic, southern homes that truly took my breath away. The further we drove into town, an abundance of shops, boutiques and restaurants popped up. I couldn’t wait to stop into as many as possible! With that mentality in mind, I knew my roommate and I had a long day of shopping ahead of us.

We decided to start our day by fueling up at Mercantile. I cannot recommend this place enough. The atmosphere is warm and cozy, with distressed exposed brick, crystal chandelier lighting, and colorful chairs. It is sophisticated, yet playful and is most certainly inviting. Mercantile has lots of vegan options which made me one happy gal, but also had many normal options if you prefer. I got an awesome tofu scramble with vegetables and a potato hash, and my roommate got breakfast tacos which consisted of steak, eggs, cheese and vegetables topped with a potato string garnish. It was delicious, and as we walked out of the restaurant door, we both looked at each other and said that we need to go back asap!

After fueling up, we set our sights on the shops. I walked into boutique after boutique wishing I could take one of everything back with me to college! I had so much fun looking around, thinking about all the outfits I could create, but my favorite part of shopping were the incredibly nice boutique employees that had the sweetest southern charm! After getting my shopping fix, we stopped into an old bookstore called Riverby Books that was magical and historical. Old books dating back to the 1800’s were mixed with current literature, appealing to every booklovers taste. I was in heaven, snapping away and dreaming about the hours I could spend here with a coffee and a great read.

Crisp Autumn Air // Exploring Virginia

As cliche as it sounds, fall is truly my favorite season. To me, nothing beats waking up to cool, crisp air, watching the leaves fall, and having a warm drink in hand…it’s oh so cozy and I love every minute of it! Recently I moved down to Virginia for college and I’ve been having a thrill exploring a totally new place. Currently, I’m on fall break and what better time to explore the state than with some time to kill!? My roommate, her family, and I rose to the occasion and planned a fun, fall filled couple of days.

We started our autumnal adventure by taking a trip up to the mountains for an apple harvest festival! The drive there was absolutely breathtaking. My eyes were glued to the window of the car, staring in awe when I spotted the mountain ranges in the distance and peeped the leaves slowly starting to turn. Upon arriving to the festival, I was greeted by cool air, the smell of apple cider and cinnamon, and the sound of crunchy leaves beneath my feet…as you could imagine, I was in my glory. We started our day by taking a hayride around the apple orchard where I was welcomed by an explosion of fall colors; gold, red, orange, and green foliage covered the ground like a blanket. The longer we were on the hayride, the more visible the mountains became. Living in New Jersey, I don’t see mountains very often, so this was certainly a treat. After our hayride concluded, we snapped a bunch of photos with our apples and made sure to grab their famous kettle corn before we headed out. I dressed for the day by throwing on one of my favorite, cozy, blue and green plaid button downs, a dark wash denim skirt (fall staple in my wardrobe) and my trusty chestnut Tommy Hilfiger riding boots!

It wouldn’t be fall without going to the pumpkin patch, so the next day we headed to Snead’s Farm for the ultimate fall experience. It was nothing short of magical! The property was stunning; fields of bountiful flowers and plants were ready to harvest, a quaint historic farmhouse sat in the middle of the grounds, lush pumpkin patches were in the distance, and the smell of cinnamon lingered in the air. I had a blast exploring the place, snapping everything in sight. I was shocked to see how huge of some the pumpkins were, going for $40 a piece! Not looking to carry something that large, we stuck to picking out pumpkins that were a bit more modest in size, perfect for painting or carving! Being so far away from home, this trip reminded me of the farm I grew up going to where I would go apple and pumpkin picking. It was surely nice to get a little taste of home for the day! My outfit for the pumpkin patch was a black, lightweight, v-neck long sleeve tee, a pair of dark wash denim, and my beloved gold jack rogers.

Rooftop Views // New York, New York

There is absolutely no place in the world like New York City. The magical energy that comes from the diversity, bustling streets, and dream chasers is simply unmatched. Every time I visit this incredible place, I am overwhelmed with massive amounts of inspiration and the feeling that I can conquer the world. While scrolling on Instagram a few weeks back, pictures of bloggers and social media influencers at The Whitney Museum of American Art kept popping up onto my feed. They all had taken epic photos on the rooftop of the museum with one of the most beautiful cityscape backgrounds I have ever seen! I had a girls trip to the city planned out with my amazing friends Nicole and Caroline and knew that we totally had to check it out! They were so in, and to The Whitney we went! We couldn’t believe our eyes when we walked through the glass doors out onto the platform. We were greeted with the most astonishing view in front of our very eyes. It was truly breathtaking seeing New York from this perspective. The location of the museum couldn’t be better. Not only do you get a view of the Hudson River and Hoboken skyline, but you get a glimpse of the Empire State Building! I could have stayed there for hours just looking out in admiration, taking in the immense beauty of this city. One day I hope to call this place my home.
