There’s Snow Place Like Central Park

To me, the holidays are truly the most wonderful time of the year. Growing up, my family and I always took a trip into the city near the holidays to see the Rockefeller Christmas Tree. Because of all those amazing memories, my friends from college and I decided to do a girls trip into NYC to experience the magic of the Big Apple around Christmas time. We started our trip by trekking down to Central Park from Penn Station. It snowed the day before, so when we arrived the Park was covered in a blanket of white. It was breathtaking. While strolling around we made sure to stop at the famous Gapstow Bridge and Central Park Pond for some photo ops of course!

After taking tons of pictures we decided to fuel up with a proper NYC brunch at Jam’s Restaurant conveniently located right across from the Park. The restaurant is as beautiful on the outside as it is on the inside. Ivy covers the exterior of the restaurant contributing to the upscale vibe of the place. The inside of the restaurant is cozy and elegant. Exposed white brick walls, lots of greenery and twinkly lights warm up the space and create a romantic ambience. The menu consists of a great balance of sweet and savory brunch options, everything from brioche french toast topped with an apple-berry compote to killer kale salads. Eating at Jam’s does come with a price so be sure to come financially prepared…I can assure that it is well worth it! I seriously can’t wait to go back in the future.

Black Friday Do’s and Don’ts

img_3658

Happy Thanksgiving, readers! Black Friday is just a few hours away and I’ve created a short guide of Do’s and Don’ts that will ensure a successful Black Friday shopping experience. Get a notepad ready…you’re gonna want to take notes for this!

Do: Create a Game Plan

With all of the chaos already involved in Black Friday, the last thing you want is the added overwhelmingness of not knowing where to shop first or who you’re shopping for first. Create a list split vertically down the middle into two columns. In the first column write the names of the people who you are buying for. In the second column write down what store you plan on shopping in for that person. This will help you to stay organized, alleviate stress, and keep you on track!

Don’t: Give into the Checkout line Merchandise

Whenever I go shopping, I always tend to throw something into my cart from the checkout line merchandise. Sephora gets me EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. with the cute, mini versions of primers, lipsticks, and roller balls. This Black Friday, refrain from the temptation because all of these mini’s ADD UP FAST! Trust me, you will be thankful when you end up saving yourself some serious cash.

Do: Make a Budget

Okay, I’m not talking down to exact dollars and cents but create a ballpark number that you know you should stay around and that you can actually afford. After shopping for each person, subtract the cost from your budget to give yourself an idea of how much you can spend on the rest of people on your Christmas shopping list. Too often, we get caught up in all of the deals and don’t realize that we are spending WAY more than we initially thought. This is the simplest way to avoid financial stress during the holiday season.

Don’t: Spend all of your money during Black Friday

I definitely get caught up in the Black Friday hype, but remember…Cyber Monday is just a couple of days after! Make sure you still have some money to spend on all of the online deals. Most of the time, a lot of stores have even better offers online! When you see that handbag you’ve been dying to score for your mom with a crazy Cyber Monday deal attached, you’ll be happy that you didn’t blow through all of your money!

Do: Your Homework!

Before hitting the mall, do a little research online or in your inbox to see what stores are offering the best deals. Nothing is worse that getting home after an exhausting day of shopping and seeing that one of the stores in your mall is having an insane deal. Not a lot of people take this step, but if you do, it will surely pay off and save you a trip back to the mobbed mall.

Don’t: Forget to put thought into each persons gift

Just because the price tag is good, doesn’t mean that the gift is a good fit for the person on your shopping list. Take the extra step to really think about what that person would like to receive on Christmas. It will seriously make all of the difference. Nothing will beat seeing that person’s face light up when they receive something truly thoughtful.

What stores are you most excited about hitting up this Black Friday? What time do you begin shopping? Let me know in the comments below! Before I end, I would just like to take some time to express how thankful I am for all of my loyal readers and followers. Without your constant love and support, lexieslifexo wouldn’t be what it is today! Thank you all so much for coming on this journey with me…I’m very excited for what’s to come! Have a blessed day!

A Day in Marseille / Visiting Notre Dame de la Garde

One of my favorite parts about exploring France was getting to visit their churches. The gorgeous architecture and immaculate details never seized to blow my mind. Out of all of the churches that I’ve had the opportunity to tour, Notre Dame de la Garde stood out the most. Located at the highest natural elevation point in Marseille, this church offers a 360 degree view of the entire city and the Mediterranean Sea…truly a sight to see. Called la bonne mère (the good mother), this church is said to guard and protect the people according to the Marseille locals.

Sweet Treat on the Seine // Paris’ World Famous Ice Cream Shop

I’ve had my fair share of amazing ice cream, so when I heard about Berthillon having quite possibly the best in the world, I had to go and see what all of the hype was about. Walking along the Ile Saint-Louis we spotted the famous shop. I knew immediately this place was going to be incredible…the line stretched all the way to the other side of the street, with people tagging on nearly every second. We hopped on the end, waiting anxiously with very high expectations.

The scenic views of the Seine made for a quite enjoyable wait in line. The serene and still vibrant green water glistened as the sun danced across it. The warm temperatures and sunny skies made it the perfect day to stop for a sweet afternoon treat!

The line moved quickly and before I knew it, it was our turn to order. I took a look at the flavor board and knew it was going to be tough to pick…everything sounded so delicious! Flavors ranged from vanilla, to pistachio, to goji berry, sure to satisfy every type of sweet tooth. I ended up choosing one scoop of mango and one scoop of melon in a waffle cone!

I couldn’t have been more happy with the flavors I chose! So bright, light, and refreshing to help cool things down on this warm day in the city. The ice cream was easily the most rich and velvety I have ever had. Savoring every bite, I wished it was never-ending. Although a bit pricy, you are surely paying for luxurious and sophisticated ice cream…so worth the price and wait in line! Berthillon certainly makes some of the best in the world…10/10 would definitely recommend!

Stopping here is a must when in Paris! Have you ever been? What’s your favorite flavor?
