Memories from Maryland

On my freshman year move-in day, I remember one of the last things my Dad saying to me before he pulled away was,”Lex, you’re going to meet ‘your people’ here”. As someone who struggled through high school in the friendship department, that was everything I was hoping for. It excited and terrified me all at the same time because the possibility of making lifelong friends seemed so incredible, but I was also scared about whether or not I would connect with people in the ways I wished for. As they say, parents are always right and I was blessed with forming some amazing friendships this past year. One of the most special relationships I created in school was with my friend Carmen. We had met at an admissions event the Spring before our freshman year started. In the Fall we both happened to be in the same Spanish class, we sat together, and the rest is history! Every single Friday we met at our school’s coffee shop and gave each other life updates, laughed until we cried, vented, gave each other advice and inspired each other! Carmen and her family invited me to spend the week in her hometown and I was incredibly excited to spend time with her and make memories that would last forever!

One of my favorite places we visited was this small town called Berlin. This quaint spot is filled with awesome shops, boutiques and restaurants. I spent way more money than I should have and bought some awesome jewelry and a new pair of sunnies that I absolutely adore! Below are some photos of the food I ate and snapshots from this sweet place!

Whenever I travel I always look for a cute and comfortable outfit to walk around in. I went for an off the shoulder, smocked gingham top that was super comfy and summery. I paired it with a high waisted, white, frayed jean skirt that I seriously have not stopped wearing this season. I finished the look off with some blush colored, suede slides that I cannot get enough of! Most of my wardrobe is black and white so these add a subtle pop of color that I am totally obsessed with!

I’m so thankful for my vacation with Carmen and can’t wait to show her my hometown next summer!

Special shoutout to this sweetheart for being the best friend!

Sweet Summertime // Terhune Orchards

There’s nothing quite like fresh fruit in the summertime! Because strawberries are in the height of their season, my sister and I decided to seize the moment and take a trip to our local orchard to go picking. We chose a beautiful, breezy afternoon; the sun was shining bright and we practically had the fields to ourselves. Upon arriving, we went into the little farm store and both picked out teal cartons to fill with the sweet berries. After getting them, we walked towards the fields and got right to it! I had so much fun searching for the perfect berries and before I knew it, my carton was overflowing! I couldn’t wait to bring them home to my family and cut them up for dessert!

Long Beach Island Travel Guide

Whenever I travel, I always get questions asking where I stayed, the best places to grab a bite to eat, and fun activities to do! I’ve been vacationing in Long Beach Island for my entire life so I feel like I am pretty equipped to write-up a travel guide for everyone! Long Beach Island undoubtedly has sentimental value to my family. When my dad was growing up, he would spend his entire summer there. His family would rent a beach house year after year in Harvey Cedars. Because of all of the amazing memories my dad created there as a kid, he wanted us to experience the same type of vacation, so we always make sure to take a trip down every summer! After coming back to the island year after year I have definitely found my tried and true places to stay, places to eat, places to shop and activities to try out. I’m so excited to share them with you!

Where to Stay

Rent a House: Renting a beach house is a great idea if you plan on spending a week or longer on the island or plan on vacationing with friends/additional family. There’s nothing like making meals together as a group and sitting around the kitchen table or out on the front porch relaxing and laughing together! So many amazing and funny memories will be made with a bunch of people staying in a house! I’ve found that renting in Beach Haven has been the best spot if you’re someone who likes who likes to be surrounded by things to do and places to go. Beach Haven is your hub for the best shopping, best restaurants, and most activities to do! If you’re someone who looks to lay low on vacation and prefers the quiet, I would suggest going to the opposite side of the island and staying in Surf City, North Beach, Harvey Cedars or Loveladies. This does come with quite a hefty price tag; however, you will be guaranteed peace and quiet away from the action and most importantly you can expect a less crowded beach.

IMG_9758.JPG

Stay in a Motel: LBI does not have any hotels, so the closest you’ll get to that type of experience is a motel. You’ll be able to find a multitude of motels across the island. A few summers ago instead of renting a house we decided to book a motel and absolutely loved our stay. We roomed in The SeaHorse Motel located in Brant Beach and it was super clean, had wi-fi, cable, super comfortable beds, a pool, deck, and a great sized bathroom. I recommend it to everyone who asks me where to stay and the rates are very affordable! Staying in a motel will definitely give you a different type of experience but having rented and stayed, I can confirm that both options guarantee a great vacation!

What to Pack

One of the things I love most about LBI is how casual it is. It is known as a family vacation destination where people truly go to unwind and relax. This is definitely apparent in the way that people dress. For most of the vacation you will be living in your bathing suit and coverup! When you want to hit the town at night to grab dinner or go shopping you’ll find women wearing casual sundresses, white jeans and a tee or shorts and a cute top all paired with sandals or flip-flops. Men wear khaki shorts and a tee or a button down with a pair of sperry’s/sneakers or flip flops. Nights on the island do get a bit chilly so make sure to pack a sweater or a sweatshirt to throw on!

Where to Drink: Coffee

Artifacts & Company “Coffee Nest”: Inside of Artifact’s and Company (more on this place later in the post) lies a little hidden gem called The Coffee Nest. This is seriously one of the most adorable coffee places I’ve ever been to. Shabby chic vibes mixed with modern white marble created an incredibly cool and artsy atmosphere. Their iced coffee is to die for, specifically their iced soy lattes…the things I would do for one of those right about now!

IMG_9682.JPG

IMG_9169.JPG

IMG_9170.JPG

Coastal Coffee Company: Get your camera’s ready…this place is so Instagram worthy! Coastal Coffee features a huge menu ranging from lattes, cold brews, teas, espresso, mochas and more! Spend your morning sipping on your favorite drink and chatting away with family and friends. The homey feel will have you wanting to stay all day!

How you Brewin?: The name of this shop you guys…I mean how freaking cute! This cozy and warm environment is perfect for a rainy/cloudy day on the island. Enjoy a multitude of different drinks, sandwiches, soups, salads and pastries!

Where to Eat: Breakfast

The Chicken or the Egg: This restaurant is an LBI classic! It has been featured on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives as well as Man vs. Food and is seriously worth all of the hype it gets. The menu is massive, ranging from everything breakfast which is available all day, to sandwiches, wings, milkshakes and other diner classics. This place gets crowded, especially on weekends so do expect a bit of a wait. I would definitely recommend getting there as early as possible if you go for breakfast, as it’s their busiest time of the day. The earlier you go, the less crowded it will be. Like I said, vacationers on the island like to relax and sleep in so waking up a bit earlier than the others will do you a service in this case! Popularly known as “Chegg” on the island, this place is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week so you’ll always have a place to eat no matter the hour.

IMG_0671.JPG

Uncle Will’s: Yet another LBI breakfast classic! Famously known for their wide variety buttermilk pancakes, these are something you simply cannot pass up! Don’t fret if you’re not a pancake person, this menu is huge filled with loads of egg dishes, breakfast sandwiches, waffles and more! Again, this is a local and tourist favorite so do expect a wait, and again, the early bird gets the worm (in this case the table)! Try to get there as early as possible to prevent too long of a wait.

Shore Good Donuts: Calling all donut lovers…this place is going to be absolute heaven for you! Eat in at their small tables or take out a box of your favorite sweet treats! With a great variety of donuts, you will have lots of options to choose from. My little sister swears by their inside-out Boston cream donut. It’s a warm plain donut, covered in hot chocolate ganache, filled with cold cream. What’s not to love!?

Processed with VSCO with c1 preset

Bagels and Beyond: Most days my family stays in for breakfast and my dad gets up early in the morning to get a bunch of fresh bagels for us! This place has awesome bagels and the employees are so friendly! Not only does this place obviously have bagels but you can also pick up awesome muffins and other sweet treats. Now I’m going to let you guys in on a secret. This place has THE BEST crumb cake in the entire universe. It would honestly be a sin if you didn’t pick some up! You will undoubtedly be coming back every morning for more!

Where to Eat: Lunch

Pearl Street Market: This place is seriously adorable! Besides the curb appeal, the food here is awesome. The menu is filled with gourmet sandwiches, paninis, burgers, wraps, and salads to fuel you up after a few hours of that intense morning sun on the beach. Eat your delicious meal outside under the umbrellas and enjoy the afternoon!

Living on the Veg: The name of this little restaurant was enough to grab my attention! This place is home to all vegetarian and vegan food options that are super healthy and delicious! Pick from a multitude of sandwiches, burritos, wraps, salads, smoothies, pressed juices, and fresh-baked vegan treats!

The Juice House: This place just opened up on the island this year and I’m sure glad it did! If you’re looking for healthy options and a lighter meal, this place is going to be your go-to. The menu consists of fresh pressed juices, smoothies, acai bowls, elixir/energy shots and vegan treats! So yummy!

Where to Eat: Dinner

Buckalew’s Restaurant and Tavern: This fun atmosphere guarantees a great time! You really can’t beat a restaurant that has a great vibe that also happens to have (most importantly) great food! This menu consists of seafood, American-fare, as well as sushi and also has gluten free and vegan options! I ordered the GF/V Cauliflower Steak and it was seriously to die for! I’m still dreaming about it…

Black-eyed Susans: Expect fine dining from this cute place! Excellent service combined with excellent food is the perfect dining experience in my opinion, and you will certainly find this here! Beautiful plate presentations are sure to impress. Great spot for a fancy night out or a date night. This place is an absolute gem. Also this is a cash only, BYOB place so prepare for that!

La Spiaggia Restaurant: This Italian cuisine will blow you away with its presentation and taste. A must-go for a nice place to eat. A cozy and fancy atmosphere will have you wanting to stay the whole night sipping on some wine (BYOB) and enjoy being on island time.

Where to Eat: Ice Cream

The Woohoo: This little ice cream shack is too cute for words! I made a stop after dinner almost everynight on the vacation and don’t regret a thing…it was that delicious! They have a wide variety of flavors, but the best part about this place is that they have vegan softserve…yup, you read that right! It was beyond amazing and is such a great option for someone who is lactose-intolerant, dairy free, or vegan!

FullSizeRender.jpg-4.jpeg

Skipper Dipper: This place is legendary on the island. They recently just celebrated their 40th season in LBI! They have a variety of hard and soft ice creams and have amazing sundae’s…you don’t want to skip out on one of those! They also have a dairy free, vegan options feautuing Dole Pineapple Whip as well as Italian Water Ice which is awesome if you’re traveling with someone who has dietary restrictions.

Where to Shop

Island Gypsy: Add this store to the top of your list on places to shop and come prepared to spend a good chunk of change…you’re going to want to buy everything in this boutique! The clothing style is very feminine with a hint of a slightly bohemian vibe. Find anything from embroidered jeans and cutoffs, to dresses, rompers, dressy-casual tops, hats and jewelry. This is definitely one of my favorite shops on the island.

Sur La Plage: If you love preppy style clothing, look no further than Sur La Plage. Located in Bay Village, this place is super easy to stop into, as it’s close to lots of activities LBI has to offer. You will find a slew of Lilly Pulitzer, Jack Rogers and Vineyard Vines. Every year I stop in to pickup my new Lilly agenda! Make sure to ask to get it monogrammed!

How to Live: This shop has everything I love in one place…clothing, shoes, jewelry, and home decor! I could spend an insane amount of money in here. Everything this store carries is gorgeous, super high-quality, and unique. A great place to buy a gift. I couldn’t help but snapping a few pictures because the store was merchandised so beautifully.

IMG_0674.JPG

IMG_0675.JPG

Artifacts & Company: A store that has a coffee shop inside (mentioned previously)….ummm yes please! Grab a latte and take a stroll browsing around this beautiful store. This shop features local artists work, as well as a place that you can purchase home furniture and lighting fixtures. In addition, they sell awesome chalk paint and have a little selection of clothing, jewelry, and handbags which are all gorgeous!

IMG_9175.JPG

IMG_9172.JPG

IMG_9174.JPG

Coconuts: Here you will find your typical beach souvenir store! I always love to pop in and pick up an LBI spirit jersey! If you’re someone who loves to sport anything and everything “LBI”, this is totally the store for you!

What to do

The Beaches: This one is totally obvious and most likely the reason you are coming to vacation here, but I just wanted to give you some insider tips! Get there early as possible to claim your spot on the sand. As the morning progresses, the beach can get pretty crowded so getting there early is definitely a smart move. You can eat on the beach so pack food accordingly. If you like swimming in the ocean, make sure to choose a spot in between the flags. If not, you may have to walk a bit until you reach a spot where you are permitted to swim. Make sure that you are financially equipped to buy a beach badge! Yes, you do have to pay to get onto the beaches in NJ, but they are so beautiful you won’t even mind the small fee. Pack a good book, plop down in your beach chair, and relax the day away!

IMG_8558.JPG

Visit Barnegat Lighthouse: Boy do I love this lighthouse! Not only is it beautiful, but it just has so much sentimental value to me. Make sure to bring your camera because you will be snapping away from all different angles! You can also climb to the top of the lighthouse to experience the view incredible view…this is a must when visiting Old Barney!

IMG_9640.JPG

Fantasy Island and Bay Village: Fantasy Island is LBI’s mini amusement park. Great for a night of fun! The ferris wheel is always a favorite of mine. Right across the street from Fantasy Island is Bay Village which is a hub for shopping and grabbing a quick bite to eat!

IMG_8633.JPG

IMG_8635.JPG

Mini-Golf: Just like other beach vacation destinations, LBI is home to tons of mini-golf places! This is always something fun to do after grabbing dinner! Play a round or two and then head over to get some ice cream to end the night on a sweet note!

Go on a Sunset Cruise: Head over to Barnegat Light and be there for 7pm to take a ride on the sunset cruise! Super picturesque and very affordable. A fun time for family and friends with lots of memories to be made!

IMG_9632.JPG

IMG_9634.JPG

Rent a Bike: Riding around on bikes is a favorite for locals and tourists alike. Getting up early and riding around in the morning while it’s still cool outside is one of my favorite things to do! I adore looking at all of the beautiful homes on my rides! Surf Buggy Bike Shop is a great place to rent!

Take Surf Lessons: For all of you adventurous/sporty vacationers this is something super fun to do! Surf with Nicole is a great place to get lessons!

Go on a Sunrise or Sunset Photoshoot: I recently just uploaded a post (see here) all about my sunrise photoshoot! It is so nice to have such beautiful pictures that you will reminisce about forever…and it is seriously the most beautiful gorgeous sight!

IMG_0523.JPG

When to go

Although busy during every month in the summer, the height of LBI tourist season is in August. The rent goes up, and there are more people than ever trying to get onto the island. Personally, I think July is the best month to plan your vacation. You are smack dab in the middle of the summer, can look forward to less crowded beaches and the hydrangeas are in full bloom!

Ready to book your trip yet!? This post has got me dreaming of going back. Thank you all for sticking with me through this one! I hope you enjoyed! For any further questions about LBI, please let me know in the comments below!

Summer Sunrise // Long Beach Island, New Jersey

Let me preface this post by saying that I am a complete and total morning person. I’m always the first in my family to get up and I do so happily, so waking up super early for this sunrise was a breeze! To me, there is nothing more exciting than the start of a new day. I can’t help but smile when I think about the opportunity that lies ahead.

A new day means that you have the power to create new memories, start a new adventure, even accomplish a goal. Personally, I start every morning by setting a positive intention for the day. This particular morning, I set my mind on doing something that I have been dreaming about for a while now! I’ve been vacationing at Long Beach Island (my happy place) for my entire life and I’ve never went to watch the sunrise. Surprising for a morning person right!?

I made my dream a reality and sprung out of bed throwing on my new striped coverup, my favorite white sunnies and silently slipped out of our beach house, careful to not wake anybody up. As I walked up to the sandy shoreline I was greeted by a salty breeze and saw the sky awakening before my very eyes. Soft pinks emerged from the horizon as the sun slowly began to rise. The colors quickly intensified into fiery orange and yellows as the sun rose higher and higher into the sky. The rich reflections of the brightly colored sunlight danced and glistened across the rippling waves.

It was the most incredible sight I have ever seen. While watching this beautiful miracle of a new day unfold before me, I couldn’t help but take a moment to reflect on how thankful I am to live and experience this life. It’s so easy to be consumed by the trivial parts of daily living but making time to see and experience something as simple and wonderful as a sunrise can completely change your perspective.

My advice? Go out and explore, accomplish that goal, make your dream a reality. Tomorrow is your fresh start. The opportunity for greatness belongs to you!

Nothing But Blue Skies // Spring Lake Beach, New Jersey

Nothing brings me more joy than spending a gorgeous summer day at the beach with my family. The crashing waves, salt air, and warm sun are the perfect recipe for some serious r&r and unforgettable memories. Recently my family and I took a trip down to Spring Lake Beach to spend the day soaking up the sun and catching some waves!

We got there early in the morning and claimed the perfect spot on the beach right near the water. We set up camp, pitching the umbrellas, setting up our beach chairs, and lathering up on sunscreen! Spring Lake is a really special place. Locals ride their darling beach cruiser bikes around, people are so friendly, and the beach is so clean and absolutely gorgeous. Oh, and don’t even get me started on the dreamy beach houses!

We spent the entire day laughing our heads off, splashing in the ocean, and enjoying life to the fullest! As soon as lunchtime rolled around, we picknicked with fabulous salads and fresh fruit…my favorite summer meal! After fueling up, we headed back to the beach and enjoyed the rest of the afternoon together. I treasure family time and the memories we made are some that I will cherish for a lifetime.

Where are your favorite places to travel to with family in the summer? Let me know in the comments below! Currently, I am headed down to Long Beach Island for family vacation and I cannot wait to share my adventures with you! Look forward to lots of posts!

Sunrise in St. Tropez

St. Tropez, one of the most exclusive, glamorous, and most beautiful towns in the French Riviera. This place has been on my travel wish list for ages and I couldn’t believe that we were actually going to be visiting. Piling into the car before dawn, we maneuvered the windy roads through the mountains from Toulon and arrived in St. Tropez in a little over an hour…just in time to watch the sunrise over the mediterranean.

We parked the car on one of the many colorful streets and started to walk through town toward the port. Vacationers sat outside in wicker chairs at local cafe’s sipping their morning espresso and munching on all of the delicious french patisserie.

Sweet little streets with colors that are sure to brighten any day are a defining feature of this glamorous beach town.

High end stores and fancy little shops are scattered all over with the prettiest of window displays, catering to the classy clientele.

Nearing the port I was allured by the crystal clear blue waters of the med…the morning light glistened on the crashing waves, truly a sight to see.

img_2811

Super yachts filled the port, some even bigger than the houses back at home. I was dazzled by how extravagant and massive they were; multiple party decks, perfectly polished silver detailing, and butlers bringing guests their morning feasts seemed too perfect to be true.

One of St. Tropez’s specialties is their famous pastry called the Tarte Tropezienne. It is essential to try this dessert when visiting here! Buttery Brioche filled with rich vanilla pastry cream topped with sugar crystals is sure to be the dessert of your dreams. I still cannot stop thinking about it! I wish I could have snapped a pic but as soon as the pastry was in my hand it looked to good to not start chowing down right away…I guess you’ll just have to visit yourself to see and taste this delicious specialty!

I certainly wouldn’t mind watching the sunrise everyday in St. Tropez!

Royalty for a Day // Exploring the Chateau and Gardens of Versailles

Usually waking up to the sound of my alarm clock blaring has me scrambling to hit the snooze button, but this particular morning I couldn’t wait to hear that annoying buzzer! I sprung out of bed, pulled myself together, and was ready for a royal and regal day. Before leaving the apartment, I ran into the kitchen and downed my morning shot of espresso…nothing like a java jolt to get the blood flowing! We had an exciting day ahead of us, spending the day exploring the Chateau and Gardens of Versailles. With no time to waste, we jumped into the car, plugged Versailles into the GPS and were on our way! But first we had to make a pit stop for croissants and pan de chocolat…breakfast of champions!?

After about a 40 minute car ride we arrived at our destination. Pulling into the parking lot and looking up at the Chateau my eyes instantaneously were drawn in by the gold…golden gates, balconies, windows, detailing and more.

Processed with VSCO with c1 preset

Versailles was crawling with tourists which was to be expected. Even upon early arrival we had to wait for hours in line to tour the Chateau. Thankfully with some snacks and good company, the time flew by. Before we knew it, we were stepping into the main entrance. After going through security, the entire Palace was open for us to explore. I was giddy with excitement.

Processed with VSCO with c1 preset

Walking into the first room, my eyes darted in every which way trying to soak up the grand beauty…the walls were showered in gold, magnificent murals, marble, and velvet; it was just the right amount of overwhelming.

The massive windows lining the walls of the Chateau offered an incredible view of the perfectly manicured gardens…so dreamy!

After roaming around for some time, we finally reached the famous Hall of Mirrors, the Palace’s most remarkable and recognized gallery. It was over the top beautiful just as King Louis XIV intended it to be…my eyes were nearly blinded by all of the gold and crystals. The paintings on the ceiling were absolutely stunning and so culturally rich. This was by far the most beautiful art I have ever seen.

I could have spent hours in one room alone, just admiring the extravagant details.

Soon we made our way out of the Palace and it was time to see the Gardens! Perfectly trimmed greenery dotted with the most lush and vibrant flowers I’ve ever seen…it felt like I was in heaven.

Spotting some stairs near one of the Garden’s fountains, we took a seat and enjoyed a traditional Parisian sandwich for lunch…ham and gruyère on a french baguette…delicious! We finished off the meal with some sparkling Perrier and apricots (they’re the best ever in France trust me!).

After lunch we continued our stroll through the Gardens that seemed to be never-ending. We eventually ran into Le Petit Trianon (Marie Antoinette’s Chateau) and couldn’t wait to check it out!

The lovely symmetric Gardens leading up to her home took my breath away…I certainly wouldn’t mind living there!

After a long day of adventuring we took a quick detour into the town of Versailles to grab some dinner and drinks! I had the best crepes in the world; one savory and one sweet. The sweet crepe was my favorite; salted caramel sauce, nutella, and french vanilla ice cream! Too good to be true!

After a meal of a lifetime we went back into the Gardens for golden hour and planned to stay until nighttime for the Palace’s firework show!

The sunset was a firey orange, casting light on the Palace and creating a beautiful picture in the sky.

Royal music played as we walked through the Gardens…it was surely fun to feel like a Queen for a day!

As the sky started to darken we took our places on the stairs and got ready for the fireworks. Crowds of people made their way to come sit down taking up every seat available. We were all anxiously waiting for them to start.

IMG_2733

The royal music gradually grew louder and louder indicating that the show was about to begin. I quickly took out my camera and put it straight into video mode!

These were by far the most amazing and striking fireworks I have ever seen. Bright hues of purple, soft pinks, rich reds, and crystally whites showered the sky. The colors continually exploded into the pitch black sky presenting themselves in every shape and style. Seeing these fireworks in person is something I believe everyone should see at least once in their lifetime. I will remember this show forever.

After the finale we rushed back to the car, beating the crowd and drove back to our apartment in Paris! Truly a day fit for royalty!

Seven Days of Sunshine : My trip to Arizona!

I just got home from my trip to Arizona and I have to say that it has been one of the best weeks of my entire life. I’m severely exhausted and am blaming it on jet lag…but I’m pretty sure I’m exhausted from how much fun I have had over this past week! I flew out to visit my Aunt Micky, Uncle Sid, and cousin Amy (the funniest and sweetest people in the universe) and we traveled all over Arizona together! In today’s post, I am going to be filling you guys in on all of the adventures we stuffed into one week! For those of you who have never been, add Arizona to your list of travels because there is something so special and beautiful about this state.

I flew Southwest to Arizona and had a great flying experience. Tons of free snacks, a wide variety of drinks, and comfortable seats made for a nice and relaxing flight. Looking out of the window and snapping pics of the clouds kept me occupied the entire way there. I loved when the plane was descending because (it meant we were almost there!) and I got to take pictures of the mountains…so stunning!

FullSizeRender-3

I was greeted by the friendliest, happiest, and loving welcome from my Aunt and Uncle at the airport! We quickly grabbed our luggage and as we exited the building it felt like I was smacked in the face with heat (I LOVED IT). NJ is so humid and there is barely any humidity in AZ… the heat feels so different and AMAZING! I was famished from the flight, so we headed out to dinner for an amazing dinner at Soul Cafe in Scottsdale, Arizona. I had short rib ravioli and it was killer!

After dinner ended, we arrived at their home which is beyond stunning! They have a perfect view of the Black Mountains (tons of celebrities live there) and cactus were everywhere! I snapped pictures from the pool patio all night…I couldn’t get enough of the view!

One of the places I wanted to visit most was In N Out Burger so we headed over for lunch. If you have never been, it is so worth coming out West just to have one of their burgers. They are incredibly delicious. As the week progressed, my family and I came up with so many In N Out jokes (which were hilarious) and I think it’s safe to say that I had a mild obsession for the joint. We went 3 times! After lunch we did some shopping at Kierland Commons, one of Scottsdale’s outdoor malls and had so much fun!

With all of the mountains in Arizona, hiking is a very popular past time! We decided to rise to the occasion to see what all of the hiking hype was about (I’ve never been on one!) and I was so excited to try it out. My cousin Amy and her awesome friend Ken go hiking quite often so they joined us for our morning hike at the Phoenix Mountain Preserve. Personally I loved hiking despite the heat (hiking in 100 degree weather is HOT) but had so much fun! A little sweat never hurt nobody! As we got closer to the top, seeing the view definitely made the hike worth it. You could see all of Phoenix below us and it was incredibly stunning!

Going to the Grand Canyon has always been one of my biggest dreams. I’ve always imagined how surreal it would be to see something so beautiful. My experience at the Grand Canyon was exactly how I imagined. As soon as I walked up the trail and was exposed to the mountains I started to cry. It completely took my breath away. The beauty of nature blows my mind. I took copious amounts of pictures and enjoyed every second exploring.

After the Grand Canyon, we took a drive down to Sedona, home of the famous Red Rocks! They were so stunning! Sedona is a great little town with a bunch of beautiful shops and is filled with the friendliest people ever! And shopping with a view of the mountains isn’t too shabby!

We went for a sunset dinner in Sedona which was beyond amazing…but what made it really amazing was the view. Watching the sun go down while eating delicious food surrounded by the red rocks was a dream. My family and I laughed the night away (as we did at every meal) but this night was especially funny! I had the best pesto and pancetta pasta with sun-dried tomatoes and for dessert I got lemon sorbet with fresh strawberries…my dessert was definitely the fan favorite! Everyone couldn’t get enough of it!

After Sedona we made our way back to Scottsdale. Earlier in the week we went shopping at Scottsdale Quarter and stopped into Urban Outfitters so that we could buy this flamingo! I got a super cute pair of sunnies there (UO makes my fav sunnies) and they look just like Audrey Hepburn’s sunglasses! Back to the flamingo…blowing this bird up was NO EASY TASK. My Uncle Sid and sisters spent so much time blowing this float up! We had so much fun floating and snapping pics on the flamingo. It was so funny watching all of us attempting to get on the flamingo and falling off of it! I lost count of how many times I fell off of the flamingo! HAHA!

My last night in Scottsdale was awesome! After an amazing dinner we went back to the house for a s’mores party! It was by far one of the best nights of my life. I don’t think I’ve ever laughed so hard…tears were streaming and I couldn’t breathe! It is so important to surround yourself with people who make you laugh, feel good, lift you up and most importantly, surround yourself with people who enjoy the beauty of life and adventure.

I can’t thank my Aunt Micky and Uncle Sid enough for the trip of a lifetime. I feel so blessed that I was able to spend time with them and connect with my cousin Amy (best yoga instructor in the world) and her friend Ken (sweet and hilarious)! The jokes, laughs, and memories will remain with me forever! I love you guys and miss you all already! If any of you ever decide to go to Arizona, please don’t hesitate to ask me questions about things to do or restaurants to go to. I would be happy to share with you the best spots! On Monday I leave for France and will be there for a little over two weeks. As soon as I get back, expect tons of posts! Until then…

Why I love the Lake Life / Tunnel Park, Lake Michigan

Growing up in New Jersey and living quite close to the shore, I’ve always spent my summer days breathing in the salty ocean air. It was quite a shock for me how different the lake was. I can distinctly remember how my skin felt after I jumped out of the lake that first time…the salty film and taste in my mouth was surely missing! Although different from what I’m used to, Lake Michigan is by far one of the most beautiful sights I have ever seen. Surrounded by lush greenery, gorgeous lake front houses, and a body of water so blue and clear was absolutely incredible.

The lake is definitely A LOT colder than the ocean I’m used to swimming in, but fortunately for me, I don’t mind the freezing temps! The sand was the silkiest and softest I’ve ever felt; I couldn’t stop running my fingers through it, watching as all of the little particles fell back into the mass. The day at the lake was one of the best summer days thus far…a perfect 80 degrees outside, stunningly beautiful blue skies, and a bright, shining sun…I could surely get used to life on the lake!
