Sweet Treat on the Seine // Paris’ World Famous Ice Cream Shop

I’ve had my fair share of amazing ice cream, so when I heard about Berthillon having quite possibly the best in the world, I had to go and see what all of the hype was about. Walking along the Ile Saint-Louis we spotted the famous shop. I knew immediately this place was going to be incredible…the line stretched all the way to the other side of the street, with people tagging on nearly every second. We hopped on the end, waiting anxiously with very high expectations.

The scenic views of the Seine made for a quite enjoyable wait in line. The serene and still vibrant green water glistened as the sun danced across it. The warm temperatures and sunny skies made it the perfect day to stop for a sweet afternoon treat!

The line moved quickly and before I knew it, it was our turn to order. I took a look at the flavor board and knew it was going to be tough to pick…everything sounded so delicious! Flavors ranged from vanilla, to pistachio, to goji berry, sure to satisfy every type of sweet tooth. I ended up choosing one scoop of mango and one scoop of melon in a waffle cone!

IMG_1551

I couldn’t have been more happy with the flavors I chose! So bright, light, and refreshing to help cool things down on this warm day in the city. The ice cream was easily the most rich and velvety I have ever had. Savoring every bite, I wished it was never-ending. Although a bit pricy, you are surely paying for luxurious and sophisticated ice cream…so worth the price and wait in line! Berthillon certainly makes some of the best in the world…10/10 would definitely recommend!

Stopping here is a must when in Paris! Have you ever been? What’s your favorite flavor?

Afternoon Boat Ride on the Seine

Waking up to an espresso along with bread topped with butter and strawberry jam was how I started every morning in Paris. The soft sunlight would peak through the large open window, bringing my tired eyes to life. A cool morning breeze would circulate through the room while the birds sang their morning hymn; our very own morning soundtrack via mother nature! All of us would gather around the table and enjoy breakfast together as we planned all of the activities we would be doing that day. This particular morning was particularly exciting to me when I heard that we would be going on a boat ride on the Seine. A dreamy afternoon was on the horizon, coming up full speed ahead!

We hopped on the metro and just a few minutes later arrived at our destination. Immediately we were able to spot the port where all of the large river boats were located, taking hundreds of people to see the beauty of Paris. We walked down to the water, purchased our tickets, and stood in line, anxiously waiting for the next boat to arrive.

As the next boat pulled up, everyone boarded, and we darted to the top deck to get the best views! I put my bags down, got situated and pulled my camera out, getting ready to put that baby to use!

Posing for a picture on Seine nonetheless was the first thing I did on the boat ride…would you expect anything less coming from me!? I wore big Audrey Hepburn inspired sunnies, a red lip, and an off the shoulder top, trying my best to look like a true Parisian. Conquering this city in style is essential!

The darling gold and blue details of the Pont Alexandre III added a regal touch as the boat cruised along the river. Lush green trees, sweet little boats and views of the Ferris Wheel were on full display, making this ride instantaneously special within the first 5 minutes!

Moving along, the Ferris Wheel became even more present, taking me back to my first day when I was on the ride, experiencing my first magical moments in Paris!

To say I was floored by the incredible architecture would be an extreme understatement. The buildings got prettier and prettier as we made our way down the river. I loved watching the people hang out on the river path…some would picnic, some would relax with a coffee, croissant and a book on the benches, while others would just sit on the ground, watching the boats cruise up and down the river.

Getting a whole new perspective of the city was pretty spectacular…the massive detailed buildings are even more surreal from a distance.

My eyes darted from left to right trying to capture each building as the boat went by…one of my favorites being Notre Dame. How insane is the detail on this church!? Truly out of this world.

Passing this apartment put #housegoals to a whole new level! How perfect is this gold and black iron balcony? I can see it now…tucking the white wispy curtains away, opening up the windows, and sitting outside in my robe with an espresso and croissant every morning! Now that’s what I call living! Oh and the view of the Seine isn’t too shabby either!

The boat ride couldn’t have ended in a more perfect way, with the most beautiful view of the Eiffel Tower! What an afternoon!

My Dream Came True / 31 Rue Cambon

I have loved fashion ever since I could begin to remember. When I was little, my mom used to give me her old pashmina scarves and I would create dresses out them. Trying to drape the best that I could manage with safety pins, I spent hours in my room perfecting my creations. As soon as my designs were complete, a runway show (that took place in my upstairs hallway) would immediately follow! My family would stand at the end of the hallway and clap as I modeled my very own designs. My love for fashion since then has only grown.

As I matured and got older, I became fascinated by high-end designers, my favorite being Chanel. I spent countless hours reading books and researching online about the brand and Mademoiselle Chanel herself. I was enthralled by her story, her empire, and chic, ladylike designs…she was (and still is) my idol. I can vividly remember coming across pictures of the first Chanel boutique, obsessing over how beautiful it was and seeing the address 31 Rue Cambon 75001 Paris, France. From the first moment I saw the boutique online, I promised myself that I would go to Paris one day and visit the original store.

Processed with VSCO with c1 preset

On August 3, my second day in Paris, I turned onto Rue Cambon and spotted the Chanel boutique…my dream came true at 17 years old! It was easily the most magical moment of my life. Tears of happiness streamed down my face. I was overwhelmed; I couldn’t believe that my dream came true. I was the happiest I have ever been in my entire life.

Processed with VSCO with c1 preset

I couldn’t stop snapping pics of the boutique…so classy and elegant! It completely took my breath away. The window displays were absolutely stunning. I’m totally obsessing over those shoes on the left!

Processed with VSCO with c1 preset

A walk up the grand marble staircase in the boutique will lead you to Mademoiselle Chanel’s apartment. Only the elite in the fashion world get to visit upstairs (Rachel Zoe for example) but that’s just incentive for me to work even harder in the industry to earn the status to visit the apartment!

Processed with VSCO with c1 preset

Chanel sure did love her marble! The iconic logo is printed on the ground in front of the main entrance of the boutique and I couldn’t wait to take a #shoestagram! Every inch of this boutique is beautifully crafted…I didn’t expect anything less from Chanel!

This magical moment in Paris is something that I will remember forever. I am so grateful that my dream came true at such a young age and I will never take that for granted. Maybe next visit to Paris I will make a purchase in the store…a pink classic flap perhaps!?

Arc De Triomphe

The Arc De Triomphe truly took my breath away. One look at the monument and I was instantaneously mesmerized by how magnificent and massive it is. Meticulously crafted, this structure is covered in detail that I could have spent days looking at.

Located on the west end of the Champs Elysees, the Arc de Triomphe is in the perfect spot…on one of the most famous streets in Paris! After taking pictures from every angle we possibly could have (#bloggerprobs) we walked down the famous street that is covered in some of the most exclusive and expensive shopping in the world…but don’t worry not every store will break the bank! I stuck to shopping in Zara!

We of course had to run into the famous macaron shop, Laduree! The line was long but SO worth the wait…they were the best macarons I have ever eaten! Equally as delicious as they are photogenic! Next time I’m in Paris, I am definitely going to sit down to a formal tea at Laduree…seems like so much fun!

As we started to reach the end of the Champs Elysees, we took a left turn and my lifelong dream came true…

Jardin des Tuileries/ Ferris Wheel Views

When I think of Paris, one of the first things that comes to mind is the Jardin des Tuileries. Located between the Place de la Concorde and the Louvre Museum you are bound to run into this Garden and Ferris Wheel when touring the city! Seeing countless instagram and blog posts about the view from the Ferris Wheel, going on it was a MUST for me when I was in Paris. I ended up going here my first day in the city…I got off of the plane in the morning, slept for a few hours in the apartment we were staying in, and then got ready for an afternoon adventure!

Thankfully the line to ride the Ferris Wheel wasn’t too long and in just a few minutes we were in our cart! I pulled my camera out, ready to snap away!

As the cart’s began to rise, an aerial view of the Jardin des Tuileries was exposed to us. Lush and green, perfectly manicured, clean and symmetric…this garden was impressive to say the least.

This garden not only provides a serene spot to relax in the city, but is also a great place for family fun. During summer holidays there are amusement park rides for the whole family that are sure to be a great time! After going on the rides, enjoy an ice cream or crepe from one of the many stands in the gardens.

Seeing the Champs Elysees has been one of my lifelong dreams. Being able to see this street my first day in Paris is more than I could have wished for! Perfectly trimmed trees line the street of some of the most expensive shopping and restaurants in the world. If you look straight ahead, down the street, you will be able to see the Arc de Triomphe…incredible!

My favorite view of the entire Ferris Wheel ride had to be the Seine and the Eiffel Tower. It was an emotional moment for me seeing what I had dreamed about looking at since I was a little girl in real life…so surreal!

After we got off the Ferris Wheel we strolled around the beautiful garden, enjoying the beauty of Paris!

More about my travels coming tomorrow!

Montmartre and Moulin Rouge

Montmartre, home of French artists and some of the best views of Paris. Cobblestone streets are lined with painters, portrait artists, cafe’s, and be warned…lots of tourists! I could have spent hours watching the artists bring the pieces of canvas to life. The creative energy in Montmartre is like nothing I have ever experienced before. I left feeling completely inspired.

This painter stuck out to me the most. His concentration, and gentle strokes of the brush created some of the most beautiful paintings of the Eiffel Tower I have ever seen.

Visiting the Sacre-Coeur is a must when at Montmartre. This is one of the most beautiful and intricately designed churches I have ever seen. Filled with unbelievably gorgeous stained glass and a ceiling painting that will blow your mind, you will not be able to put your camera down! After touring the church, head toward the balcony to see the amazing views of Paris or pack a picnic lunch and relax on the hill taking in the incredible views.

I couldn’t stop staring into the distance…Paris is absolutely stunning. The architecture, the colors of the buildings…this view had me swooning!

Not too far away from Montmartre (actually a walk right down the hill) is Moulin Rouge, the famous French Cabaret. Home of the first French CanCan Dancers, this was a hub for the fashionable and for the people who loved a good party! This nightclub and entertainment venue is still highly functioning and attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists a year. I loved seeing how this one building added so much color to the street and it’s even more beautiful at night…the entire building lights up!

Have you ever been to Montmartre or a show at Moulin Rouge? What’s your favorite part about the area?

Mornings in Paris

I’ve been dreaming of going to Paris since I was a little girl. Madeline books (remember those!?) would be on constant rotation during story time right before bed. The Eiffel Tower images on the covers of the books and scattered throughout the pages stuck with me for all of these years. As I got older, my love for Paris grew more and more. My room became (and still is) filled with Eiffel Tower statues, pictures of the Arc de Triomphe, Parisian inspired jewelry boxes…the list goes on and on, not to mention that my bathroom is also decorated with a Paris theme! I fell completely in love with the French culture and lifestyle, but what I loved the most was the Parisian Woman; classy and elegant, always slightly overdressed, confident without having to boast, effortlessly chic, understated while simultaneously making a huge statement. The Parisian Woman is everything I have strived to be practically my entire life. When my parents told me the news that I was going to be vacationing in Paris with my best friend Justine, I couldn’t stop crying…my dream was going to come true! I hugged my parents probably a million times and immediately put a countdown on my phone waiting for the summer of my dreams. Everyday I imagined walking through the streets in the morning, watching the sun peek through the tree branches, hearing the birds chirp their morning song, while munching on a croissant and sipping on espresso…and when I arrived in Paris, that is exactly what I did!

Processed with VSCO with m5 preset

Getting up early is always a good idea in Paris. Not only do you beat the crowds and get better pictures, but you also get to experience a serene and quiet side of the city. We took a stroll down to the Eiffel Tower and got to watch the sunrise, slowly bringing the city to life…it was a magical morning.

Processed with VSCO with m5 preset

Watching the morning sun cast light and create beautiful, intricate shadows on the buildings is something that I will never forget.

Processed with VSCO with c1 preset

Out of all of the food in Paris, my favorite has to be the breakfast food. The croissants were to DIE for…so buttery, tender, and flaky (going to miss them the most back in the states). For all you chocoholics, you would go bananas over pan de chocolat…a croissant like pastry filled with rich and creamy chocolate. The french bread toasted with butter and strawberry jam was also one of my favorites in the morning. A glass of orange juice and some espresso to give you a jolt were the perfect drinks to start the day off right! There’s nothing quite like a traditional french breakfast!

Processed with VSCO with m5 preset

Processed with VSCO with m5 preset

The darling, quiet morning strolls were a great time for me to set a positive intention for the day. I couldn’t help but smile while gazing at the immaculate architecture. The flowers scattered all over the iron bar balconies add a pop of color and sweetness to the city and were just how I imagined them in my dreams.

Paris has my heart! Many more posts about my French vacation to come…hope you guys are ready to read!

Seven Days of Sunshine : My trip to Arizona!

I just got home from my trip to Arizona and I have to say that it has been one of the best weeks of my entire life. I’m severely exhausted and am blaming it on jet lag…but I’m pretty sure I’m exhausted from how much fun I have had over this past week! I flew out to visit my Aunt Micky, Uncle Sid, and cousin Amy (the funniest and sweetest people in the universe) and we traveled all over Arizona together! In today’s post, I am going to be filling you guys in on all of the adventures we stuffed into one week! For those of you who have never been, add Arizona to your list of travels because there is something so special and beautiful about this state.

I flew Southwest to Arizona and had a great flying experience. Tons of free snacks, a wide variety of drinks, and comfortable seats made for a nice and relaxing flight. Looking out of the window and snapping pics of the clouds kept me occupied the entire way there. I loved when the plane was descending because (it meant we were almost there!) and I got to take pictures of the mountains…so stunning!

FullSizeRender-3

I was greeted by the friendliest, happiest, and loving welcome from my Aunt and Uncle at the airport! We quickly grabbed our luggage and as we exited the building it felt like I was smacked in the face with heat (I LOVED IT). NJ is so humid and there is barely any humidity in AZ… the heat feels so different and AMAZING! I was famished from the flight, so we headed out to dinner for an amazing dinner at Soul Cafe in Scottsdale, Arizona. I had short rib ravioli and it was killer!

After dinner ended, we arrived at their home which is beyond stunning! They have a perfect view of the Black Mountains (tons of celebrities live there) and cactus were everywhere! I snapped pictures from the pool patio all night…I couldn’t get enough of the view!

My first day was a blast! I woke up in the morning, ate some breakfast, and spent my the rest of the a.m. splashing around in the gorgeous pool! One of the places I wanted to visit most was In N Out Burger so we headed over for lunch. If you have never been, it is so worth coming out West just to have one of their burgers. They are incredibly delicious. As the week progressed, my family and I came up with so many In N Out jokes (which were hilarious) and I think it’s safe to say that I had a mild obsession for the joint. We went 3 times! After lunch we did some shopping at Kierland Commons, one of Scottsdale’s outdoor malls and had so much fun!

With all of the mountains in Arizona, hiking is a very popular past time! We decided to rise to the occasion to see what all of the hiking hype was about (I’ve never been on one!) and I was so excited to try it out. My cousin Amy and her awesome friend Ken go hiking quite often so they joined us for our morning hike at the Phoenix Mountain Preserve. Personally I loved hiking despite the heat (hiking in 100 degree weather is HOT) but had so much fun! A little sweat never hurt nobody! As we got closer to the top, seeing the view definitely made the hike worth it. You could see all of Phoenix below us and it was incredibly stunning!

Going to the Grand Canyon has always been one of my biggest dreams. I’ve always imagined how surreal it would be to see something so beautiful. My experience at the Grand Canyon was exactly how I imagined. As soon as I walked up the trail and was exposed to the mountains I started to cry. It completely took my breath away. The beauty of nature blows my mind. I took copious amounts of pictures and enjoyed every second exploring.

After the Grand Canyon, we took a drive down to Sedona, home of the famous Red Rocks! They were so stunning! Sedona is a great little town with a bunch of beautiful shops and is filled with the friendliest people ever! And shopping with a view of the mountains isn’t too shabby!

We went for a sunset dinner in Sedona which was beyond amazing…but what made it really amazing was the view. Watching the sun go down while eating delicious food surrounded by the red rocks was a dream. My family and I laughed the night away (as we did at every meal) but this night was especially funny! I had the best pesto and pancetta pasta with sun-dried tomatoes and for dessert I got lemon sorbet with fresh strawberries…my dessert was definitely the fan favorite! Everyone couldn’t get enough of it!

After Sedona we made our way back to Scottsdale. Earlier in the week we went shopping at Scottsdale Quarter and stopped into Urban Outfitters so that we could buy this flamingo! I got a super cute pair of sunnies there (UO makes my fav sunnies) and they look just like Audrey Hepburn’s sunglasses! Back to the flamingo…blowing this bird up was NO EASY TASK. My Uncle Sid and sisters spent so much time blowing this float up! We had so much fun floating and snapping pics on the flamingo. It was so funny watching all of us attempting to get on the flamingo and falling off of it! I lost count of how many times I fell off of the flamingo! HAHA!

My last night in Scottsdale was awesome! After an amazing dinner we went back to the house for a s’mores party! It was by far one of the best nights of my life. I don’t think I’ve ever laughed so hard…tears were streaming and I couldn’t breathe! It is so important to surround yourself with people who make you laugh, feel good, lift you up and most importantly, surround yourself with people who enjoy the beauty of life and adventure.

I can’t thank my Aunt Micky and Uncle Sid enough for the trip of a lifetime. I feel so blessed that I was able to spend time with them and connect with my cousin Amy (best yoga instructor in the world) and her friend Ken (sweet and hilarious)! The jokes, laughs, and memories will remain with me forever! I love you guys and miss you all already! If any of you ever decide to go to Arizona, please don’t hesitate to ask me questions about things to do or restaurants to go to. I would be happy to share with you the best spots! On Monday I leave for France and will be there for a little over two weeks. As soon as I get back, expect tons of posts! Until then…

Why I love the Lake Life / Tunnel Park, Lake Michigan

Growing up in New Jersey and living quite close to the shore, I’ve always spent my summer days breathing in the salty ocean air. It was quite a shock for me how different the lake was. I can distinctly remember how my skin felt after I jumped out of the lake that first time…the salty film and taste in my mouth was surely missing! Although different from what I’m used to, Lake Michigan is by far one of the most beautiful sights I have ever seen. Surrounded by lush greenery, gorgeous lake front houses, and a body of water so blue and clear was absolutely incredible.

The lake is definitely A LOT colder than the ocean I’m used to swimming in, but fortunately for me, I don’t mind the freezing temps! The sand was the silkiest and softest I’ve ever felt; I couldn’t stop running my fingers through it, watching as all of the little particles fell back into the mass. The day at the lake was one of the best summer days thus far…a perfect 80 degrees outside, stunningly beautiful blue skies, and a bright, shining sun…I could surely get used to life on the lake!

Home Away From Home / Holland, Michigan

I knew that from the moment I stepped out of the car three years ago that this place was different. The best way I can explain how I felt was that I had this overwhelming feeling of happiness. Being someone with a pretty good intuition, I knew that the small, quaint, and ridiculously adorable town of Holland was somewhere really special. I have been blessed beyond to get the opportunity to come back to my favorite place every summer with my youth group.

My youth group and I attend the CIY (Christ In Youth) Summer Conference and stay at Hope College which is located in the heart of Holland. Hope is incredibly beautiful in every single way. I am so grateful that I get to stay here for a week each summer. I cherish every second spent on their campus. My sister and I spent many of our days camped out on the grass, munching on some snacks. We would lay under the trees, look up at the sky and just spend some one on one time with God, expressing so much thanks for the beautiful world He created for us. It is the perfect place to reflect on a campus as serene as Hope’s. The architecture of the buildings are enough to make your heart melt. I got the opportunity to officially tour campus which was incredible and made my heart for Hope grow even fonder.

If I could describe Holland in one word it would be warm. By warm I mean that the people from this town talk to you like they have known you forever, they take time to get to know you and they respect you, they want to make you feel welcomed and comfortable and I couldn’t be more thankful for their sweet and genuine hospitality. 8th street (their main street) is lined with delicious restaurants, coffee shops, boutiques, gift shops, ice cream/frozen yogurt places and an amazing donut shop (still dreaming about it)!

Below I am going to be including pictures from the town and Hope College! I couldn’t put my camera down the entire trip because of how gorgeous everything is. I am so genuinely and 100% happy here and hope that you enjoy the pictures!
